Mason Anaya

Major:  English (Creative Writing and Theatre)

What every EKU freshman needs to know: College is hard. Then again, Life is hard. Try your best. Never look back. Understand that failure is a piece of the puzzle of success. If you try something and never fail, it’s probably because you weren’t trying hard enough. You’re already here, so you need to make the most of your time. If you were planning on quitting, you should have quit a long time ago! Have fun. Try everything and regret nothing. Over the course of the next few years, you’re going to learn some things about yourself that you don’t know right now. Help others in a way you work helped. You can make a difference.


Ashley Brierly

Hometown: Bedford, KY

Major: Recreation and Parks Administration

Campus Involvement: Baptist Campus Ministries Leadership Team, Resident Advisor, REC Club, RPA Student Advisory Council, First Year Leader,

What every EKU freshman needs to know:  You are the decider of how your own college experience is going to turn out. Here at Eastern there is always someone around to help guide you. Don’t be scared to get out of your comfort zone. Life is one big adventure!!


Kylantiss Frazier

Major: Social Work

What every EKU freshman needs to know:  Your main focus is academics! Always remember why You’re here. Get involved and learn the ropes of networking. Utilize resources and ask questions! We’re here to help!!!


Katt Grasberger

Hometown: Richmond, Virginia

Major: Chemistry

Campus involvement: EKU Cross Country, Indoor Track and Field, and Outdoor Track and Field, Student Academic Success Team

What every EKU freshman needs to know: Read the EKU students today email and follow EKU admissions on Snapchat for fun stuff happening on campus.


Marshall Heath

Hometown: Ashland, Kentucky

Major: Forensic Chemistry

Campus Involvement: Forensic Science LLC, Wesley Foundation, Cynders Inn, Freshman Academy for Diverse Students. 

What every EKU freshman needs to know:  Become involved on campus, go to every class and keep in contact with your professor if you have any questions. Don’t be afraid to be yourself, also use your resources, they are Lifesavers. 


Larissa (Rissa) Heslop

Hometown: Greer, South Carolina

Major: Anthropology

Campus Involvement: EKU Women's soccer Team, Rodney Grass Scholar, Freshman Academy/Future Freshman Academy Mentor, FYL, Diverse Student Ambassador.   

What every EKU freshman needs to know:  There is a lot to do on campus; find ways to get involved. There are a lot of people to help you be successful if you work hard yourself too. 


Abby Huber

Hometown: Villa Hills, Kentucky

Major: Social Worky

Campus Involvement: EKU Guru, Resident Advisor, and First Year Leader!! Also involved in campus ministries!! 

What every EKU freshman needs to know:  Use your resources!! Don’t be afraid to ask for help, because college can be hard and we all get it, we want to help you and we want you to succeed! Don’t be afraid to be yourself, this is your fresh start!!! 


Katlin Kyle

Hometown: Lexington, Kentucky

Major: Social Work

Campus Involvement: Everybody Everybody, Green Crew, Group Fitness

What every EKU freshman needs to know:  Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Your first year can be a little intimidating, but when you try new things it will be worth it in the end. This year is what you make it. 


Morgan Jenkins

Hometown: Southgate, KY

Major:  Exploratory

Campus Involvement:  I go to as many campus events as possible.

What every EKU freshman needs to know: Things may seem hard and sometimes you may seem lonely and want to give up, but push through it.  You will meet new people and make new friends!  Don't be scared to try new things and don't be scared to be someone new!


Brayden Laakkonen

Hometown: Lexington, Kentucky

Major: Biomedical Science

Campus Involvement: Honors program; First Year Leader,

What every EKU freshman needs to know:  The thing with college that you have a lot of control over what you do. Which means you’ll get to do the things that you want to do, but it also means you’re responsible for actually doing that stuff. Either way make sure to have some fun, stay on top of deadlines, and remember that there are tons of resources on campus if you’d like help.


Caitlin Murphy 

Hometown: Midway, Kentucky

Major: Psychology

Campus Involvement: Marching Colonel, Sigma Alpha Iota Member and First Year Leader. 

What every EKU freshman needs to know:  Every EKU freshman needs to know that you shouldn’t be afraid to be yourself – a positive attitude and staying true to yourself will make your college experience outstanding. 


Megan Reynolds 

Hometown: Middlesboro, Kentucky

Major: Exploratory, (undecided)

Campus Involvement: First Year Leader,  

What every EKU freshman needs to know:  As a freshman I wish I would’ve known how important it was to get involved, and make the best of your experience at EKU in every way.

Hometown: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Major: Nursing; Pre-med

Campus involvement: Cru, Resident Assistant, Peer mentor for the Freshmen Academy for Diverse students

What every freshmen needs to know:  The first semester of college can be exciting, but sometimes the actions born out of excitement can later be regretful. So make wise decisions - the decisions you make as a freshman will be the building blocks of your life goals.


Lauren Stahl

Hometown: Piner, KY

Major: Therapeutic Recreation

Campus Involvement: 2015 EKU Cheerleader

What every EKU freshman needs to know: Don't get too stressed out.  Life does go on, and just take everything one step at a time.  That sounds super cliche, but it's true.  If you get overwhelmed, then you won't be able to accomplish anything.  Always stay on top of your school work and get involved if you can.  Being a part of campus makes you feel more a part of a family and gives you something to do.


Mackenzie Stovall

Hometown: Louisville, KY

Major: Early Childhood Special Education

Campus Involvement: Campus Outreach, Big Buddies, Greek Life, Intramural basketball and volleyball.

What every EKU freshman needs to know: There is a lot of informatoin people will share with you as an EKU Frehman, but some simple things to remember would be to be yourself and have fun!  College will be the best years of your life, so take advantage of all the opportunities and resources available to you!  Get out of your typical "norm" and try new things - it's worth it, I promise!  One last thing to never forget is to put in what you want out of your experience in college.  It's what you make it, so make it the best!


Danielle Watt 

Hometown: Erlanger, Kentucky

Major: Occupational Therapy

Campus Involvement: First Year Leader, Club Soccer, Intramural Sports

What every EKU freshman needs to know:  Every freshman needs to know: time management, money management, a smart sleep schedule, be familiar with the campus and the place is specific to a student's needs such as the health center, the dining hall, the counselors office etc.

Campus involvement:  Alpha Gamma Delta and Baptist Campus Ministry 

What every EKU freshman needs to know: Get involved, it can help the transition from high school to college. It’s a great way to get to know people and make friends.
